The Parkinson’s Disease Support Group of Southern New Mexico was formed in 2009 to provide information to members of the community who were diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease as well as their caregivers. It is a forum where the members can openly share information, first-hand experiences and resources.

Meetings

Our meetings are open to the public and provide basic information to people in our community who have been diagnosed with, or care for persons with, Parkinson’s Disease. Please feel free to attend our meetings and events. There is no fee for membership.

Monthly Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of every month at Holiday Inn Express, 2142 Telshor Court, Las Cruces (located near Sam’s Club) – turn off Telshor onto Telshor Court by the old Uno’s which is now Bosque Brewing.

We start at 9:00 with Social time, come early and get to know other support group attendees! Meeting begins at 9:45. Carol Witham leads a breakout session for caregivers from 11:10 – 11:40 a.m.

Newly Diagnosed Support Group meetings. All members are invited to join, especially the long timers, as they have experience and wisdom to share. The meeting is held at 10 a.m. the 4th Tuesday of each month at Solstice Senior Living, 151 N. Roadrunner Parkway, Las Cruces. Check the events calendar for date/time updates.

Exercise Options

Parkinson’s Exercise Class – Led by Medical Exercise Specialist, Carol A. Witham, class is held every Monday and Wednesday at 10:00 am at the Village at Northrise, Hallmark Building, second level. (Free) Contact Sarah Stegall for details.(575.496.2550).

Rock Steady Boxing is now being held at Maximum Martial Arts, 1705 E. University Ave. Las Cruces. Classes are every Monday and Friday at 11:00 a.m., with open gym on Wednesdays at 11. Pickleball instruction and practice at Meerscheidt Recreation Center (MRC) or at Apodaca Park. We have the use of an indoor court at MRC from 12:15-2:30 p.m. on Thursdays (except during school holidays). More info is posted on our Events page. (Free).

For more experienced players, see The Organ Mountains Pickleball Club (OMPC). OMPC, a registered 501c(3) charitable organization, has generously paid our first year’s dues at Meerscheidt Recreation Center, as well as providing training at no charge.

Our sponsor, Parkinson’s and Movement Disorder Alliance (PDM Alliance) is a non-profit corporation, exempt from federal tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. PDSGSNM is an entity also formed to fulfill the expressed mission of meeting the needs of and serving people with Parkinson’s Disease.
